A 10-day road trip through this enchanting Italian island had always been on my bucket list, and finally, it was time to make it happen.

Feel the heat under your boots as you hike the mighty Etna Volcano, the ground beneath you rumbling with ancient power. Stroll through medieval-esque alleyways that twist and turn like a labyrinth, each corner revealing another slice of Sicilian charm.

Imagine sipping delicious local wine as the sun dips below the horizon, painting the sky in hues of pink and orange, while the warm breeze carries the scent of citrus and the distant sound of the sea. Next, make your way to the Norman Palace and be awed by the dazzling mosaics in the Palatine Chapel. Don’t miss Chiesa del Gesù for a taste of baroque beauty and Chiesa di San Giovanni degli Eremiti for some serene garden vibes.

Day 2: Ancient Ruins and Medieval Charm

This coastal town is known for its stunning sunsets and, of course, its famous Marsala wine. Grab a glass of this local treasure and enjoy the view.

Day 3: Marsala’s Beauty and Relaxation in Sulinente

In the afternoon, make your way to Sulinente, a tranquil coastal village where you can relax on pristine beaches or take a walk along the shore. You might even catch a glimpse of flamingos in the salt pans! As the sun sets, head to Agrigento. Check into your accommodation and get ready for another day of exploration tomorrow.

Day 4: Ancient History in Agrigento

Start your day at the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento, one of Sicily’s most iconic historical sites. Wander among the majestic ruins of ancient Greek temples, including the stunning Temple of Concordia. The early morning light here is perfect for photos, so make sure your camera is ready!

After immersing yourself in ancient history, spend your afternoon in Agrigento’s old city center. Stroll down Via Atenea for some shopping and enjoy a relaxed lunch at a local trattoria. After lunch, explore the narrow streets and quaint churches of Agrigento. Don’t miss the Agrigento Cathedral for amazing views of the old town and the valley below, especially as the sun starts to set.

Day 5: From Ragusa to Syracuse

Day 5 is all about the charm of Ragusa and the beauty of Syracuse. Start your day exploring Ragusa’s two parts—Ragusa Superiore and Ragusa Ibla. The newer town is great for a morning coffee, but make sure you head to the old town for its baroque architecture and historic churches. The Duomo di San Giorgio is a must-see, and the Giardini Iblei offer a peaceful spot for a rest.

In the afternoon, drive to Syracuse and settle into your hotel on the island of Ortygia. Spend the evening exploring Ortygia’s charming streets, perhaps enjoying an aperitivo by the sea as the sun sets.

Day 6: Discovering Syracuse

In the afternoon, dive deeper into Ortygia’s history. Visit the Temple of Apollo and wander through the Jewish Quarter. Make sure to visit the Castello Maniace for some incredible views of the sea and city. As evening falls, find a seaside spot for dinner and enjoy the sunset over the Ionian Sea.

Day 7: A Relaxing Day in Taormina

On Day 7, you’ll drive from Syracuse to Taormina. The drive is just over an hour, so you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy the scenic route. Once you arrive, take a leisurely stroll along Corso Umberto, the town’s main pedestrian street. Check out the shops, boutiques, and gelaterias.

Next, visit the Ancient Theatre of Taormina for some stunning views of Mount Etna and the sea. After exploring the theater, enjoy a relaxing lunch at one of the restaurants with a sea view. In the afternoon, head to Isola Bella for some beach time. Swim in the crystal-clear waters or just relax on the pebbly beach.

As the day winds down, head back to Taormina for dinner. Choose a restaurant with a terrace so you can enjoy the sunset over the Mediterranean.

Day 8: Hiking Mount Etna

Get ready for an adventure on Day 8! After breakfast in Taormina, drive to Rifugio Sapienza, the base for many of Etna’s hikes. One of the best trails is the Crateri Silvestri Loop, a moderate hike that takes you around the Silvestri Craters with amazing views of the volcano and the surrounding landscape.

If you’re up for more, you can take the cable car and jeep tour to get closer to the summit. After your hike, head back to Taormina and relax with a well-deserved dinner. Reflect on the day’s adventure as you enjoy a meal at a local restaurant.

Day 9: Taormina to Filicudi – Beach Day and Scenic Views

Start your day in Taormina with a leisurely breakfast. After savoring your cappuccino, drive to Milazzo Port (about 1.5 hours away) for your ferry to Filicudi. Enjoy the 30-minute ride and arrive on this serene island.

Head straight to Pollara Beach for a relaxing morning. Swim in the clear blue waters or just chill on the pebbly shore. For lunch, find a seaside spot in Pollara and enjoy fresh seafood with a view.

In the afternoon, explore the Roman Villa of Pollara and then hike to Capo Graziano for stunning island views. When the sun starts to set, head back to Pollara Beach for one last sunset.

Spend the night in Pollara, where you can enjoy a peaceful evening and a cozy dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 10: From Pollara to Cefalù – Sunrise, Exploring, and Relaxing

Start your day early by heading to Pollara Beach to catch a breathtaking sunrise over the sea. It’s the perfect way to say goodbye to the serene island before you set off for your next adventure.

After the sunrise, enjoy a laid-back breakfast in Pollara and then take the ferry back to Milazzo Port. From there, drive to Cefalù (about 1.5 hours) and aim to arrive by lunchtime.

In Cefalù, wander through the charming streets and visit the impressive Cefalù Cathedral with its beautiful mosaics. If you’re feeling up for a bit of a challenge, hike the Rocca di Cefalù for stunning views of the city and coastline.

After your hike or exploration, relax on Cefalù Beach or take a stroll along the scenic Lungomare. As the evening approaches, find a cozy spot for a final Sicilian dinner and reflect on your amazing trip.

The next morning, enjoy your last morning in Sicily before heading to Palerma to tke your flight back home.
